Let us not dwell on the well-known fact that memory is unreliable. It unintentionally modifies events, forgets dates, imposes its own chronology and omits or alters the present of the writer or speaker. It magnifies what was insignificant: everyone likes to witness things that are unusual and have nee been described before. Anyone who knows a strange fact shares in its singularity.
